John F Kennedy did not approve of the Berlin wall and instead insisted Khrushchev to reunite west and east Germany.

Khrushchev was the one who gave permission for the guards to build a wall separating the west from the east. He thought the Westerns were a threat because they were all run by the British, French, and American.
Walter Ulbricht was born June 30, 1893 and he passed away August 1st, 1973. East German leader in 1961. He was Chairman of the Council of State of the German Democratic Republic and he was as well as the presenter of the idea of barbed wire fence.
